Each class introduces students to artistic techniques in drawing and painting, as well as art history; through studying still life, landscape, figures, and abstract design.
All make up classes must be approved and taken during other scheduled classes.
Students are also allowed free use of the studio during assigned hours as noted each week.
New Class Opportunity:
Parent with Son or Daughter Work Together: Come draw and paint. Buy one adult session at full price, and pay half price for your child from ages 8 to 12. Call for details.
Tenured Students earn free studio time. This means they can use the studio to work freely during week days when no classes are in session. Tenure means you have to be a paid student for a minimum of six months.
Studio availability is posted weekly.
Key Memberships are tenured members who pay an additional $25 per session ($295+$25=$320) and get a key to enter and use the studio anytime there are no classes in session, day or night, seven days a week.
Our Education Philosophy:
We believe anyone can learn to draw and paint; and that everyone with the desire to learn will succeed. We will make every effort to insure your satisfaction.
The ages we serve are 12 years of age and older. An interview may be required for young students to determine if they are ready for our program. Because our class sizes are small, we offer a more personal learning experience with plenty of attention given to individual needs.
Students will use various tools and techniques to produce artwork starting with still life objects, such as bottles, vases, and books, etc. Then they will examine other subjects such as landscapes, free form designs, and human forms; once they have achieved a proven understanding of basic skills.
Learning strategies will encompass composition, proportion, symmetry, and color theory,
while producing artwork in pencil, charcoal, pastel, acrylics, and oil paints.
Students will occasionally reproduce works of art by master artists, such as Claude Monet, Leonardo da Vinci, Pablo Picasso, etc. Acquiring knowledge in art history, artist's techniques, and their lives is an important part of the learning process.
Advanced students will develop their own projects under supervision, and learn to construct a portfolio, as well as how to properly care for art and its presentation.
